This super quality crested early George II silver straight sided coffee pot was made in London in 1735 by John Fossey (makers mark lightly struck) and measures 8.25 inches tall by 7 inches handle to spout and is 4 1/8 inches in dia across the base. It is beautifully flat chased with belle flowers, scrolls acanthus detail, quilting and fish scaling, it is crested to one side with an armoured arm holding a scimitar and has a scrolled wooden handle with graduated drop detailing to the terminal at the top of the handle and a scroll and drop detail to the bottom of the handle, the skirt is also well chased with a most unusual design, it has drop detailing below the spout and has a bun shaped finial to the lid. It is fully hallmarked under the base and also to the lid with the lion passant. It is a lovely looking pot of very good gauge and colour and weighs 20.50 ounces or 639 grams.
