Pretty Victorian silver scenic vinaigrette Birmingham 1845 Edward Smith
Price £ 735
This very pretty Victorian silver scenic engraved vinaigrette was made in Birmingham in 1845 by Edward Smith and measures 1 5/8 inches in length by 1.25 inches wide and is 3/8 inches deep, it has a scene to the front of a boat on water with buildings either side and the sun shining down and hills in the background, the base is engraved with scrolling acanthus leaves and bears the initials MC to the centre. The inside is gilded which is now a pale lemon (some areas missing from the essence I would imagine) and is beautifully pierced and engraved and it is fully and clearly hallmarked in the base and inside the lid with the makers mark, lion passant and monarchs head. A very nice vinaigrette with tight fitting grille and lid.
