This fine cast topped George IV silver snuff box was made in Birmingham in 1826 by Thomas Shaw and measures 3 1/8 inches long by 2.25 inches wide and is just under an inch deep. The cast scene to the lid depicts a classical mythological scene with figures, horses and a handover of a scroll, the convex repoussed sides have crisp decoration of flowers and foliage and the underside is engine turned and has a vacant central oblong cartouche. It is gilded to the interior and is full and clearly hallmarked both top and base and is in excellent condition weighing 4.4 ounces.
