Good quality crested Victorian silver box Birmingham 1838 Edward Smith
This quality crested early Victorian silver oblong box was made in Birmingham in 1838 by Edward Smith and measures 3 1/8 inches in length by 1 5/8 inches wide and is 11/16 inches deep, it has a shield shaped cartouche to the hinged lid bearing the crest of a griffins head and has a cast border, the lid and base are both engine turned and the sides are ribbed, it is gilded to the interior and is fully and clearly hallmarked, the condition is very good and it weighs 2.50 ounces or 77 grams.
